Emergency Dental Services Treat Sudden Pain and Trauma
You bit into something hard at dinner, and now part of a tooth is missing. Or you woke up with a throbbing ache and a cheek that’s starting to swell. Emergency dental services are for moments like these, when pain or damage can’t wait for your next checkup.
Common reasons to call us for emergency dental services include:
- A broken or cracked tooth
- A severe toothache that won’t let up
- A knocked-out tooth
- Swelling in your gums, face, or jaw
A knocked-out tooth is the most time-sensitive of these. Pick it up by the top, not the root, keep it moist, and call right away. Swelling matters too. It can point to an infection that needs attention soon.
For most people, the hardest part is deciding whether their problem counts as an emergency. Our advice is simple. If you’re in real pain or something looks wrong, call. We’d rather see you and put your mind at ease than have you wait it out at home.
Our scheduling is streamlined so urgent visits move quickly. When you come in, we’ll find the cause, ease the pain, and explain your options in plain terms before anything happens. You can read more about our Emergency Dental Services.
Dental Implants Replace Missing Teeth Permanently
Missing a tooth and wondering if there’s a fix that lasts? Dental implants are built for exactly that. A small titanium post goes into your jawbone, the bone heals around it, and a custom crown goes on top.
The result looks and works like a natural tooth. You brush it, floss it, and chew with it like the rest of your teeth. Dental implants can replace one missing tooth or several, and they don’t slip or need to come out at night.
There’s another benefit people don’t always hear about. When a tooth is gone, the bone under it can slowly shrink. A dental implant gives that bone something to hold onto again.
Dental implants are one of Dr. Manassra’s areas of focus. Planning starts with 3D dental imaging, so we can see your bone in detail before we place anything. Healing usually takes a few months, and your timeline depends on your bone and overall health.
We’ll walk you through each step so nothing comes as a surprise. If you’re weighing your options for a missing tooth, start with our Dental Implants page.
Routine Dental Exam and Cleaning Keeps Teeth Healthy
A routine dental exam and cleaning is really two things in one visit. A skilled dental hygienist cleans your teeth. Then the dentist checks your whole mouth for anything that needs attention.
Here’s what a typical routine dental exam and cleaning includes:
- Removing plaque and hardened tartar from your teeth and along the gumline
- Polishing away surface stains
- A dentist check of your teeth, gums, and bite
- An oral cancer screening
- Digital x-rays when they’re due
The American Dental Association recommends regular dental visits, with timing set by your dentist based on your health. For many people, that’s every six months. If you have gum concerns, we may suggest coming in more often.
This is the visit people put off most often, and it’s the one that keeps the bigger services on this page from ever being needed. Catching a small cavity early is a lot easier than fixing a cracked tooth later.
Our chairs come with cozy blankets, pillows, and headphones, so the time goes by easily. Learn more about what happens during a Routine Dental Exam and Cleaning.
Teeth Whitening Brightens Your Smile Safely
Store whitening strips can lift a little surface stain. Professional teeth whitening goes deeper, using a stronger gel than you can buy off the shelf, applied under a dentist’s supervision.
Teeth whitening is part of Dr. Manassra’s cosmetic dentistry work. Before we start, we check for cavities and gum problems, because whitening on top of an issue isn’t a good idea. Then we protect your gums and apply the gel carefully. You get a brighter shade that still looks like you.
A few things are worth knowing up front. Teeth whitening works on natural tooth enamel. Crowns, fillings, and veneers won’t change color, so we’ll talk about how they’ll match. Some people feel mild sensitivity for a day or two afterward, and we can help you manage it.
Got a wedding, graduation, or job interview coming up? Plan your teeth whitening a few weeks ahead. That gives you time to see the final shade and touch up if needed.
Our goal is a natural result, not a shade that looks painted on. See how our Teeth Whitening works.
Dental Crowns Restore Damaged or Weak Teeth
A tooth that’s held a big filling for years can start to crack around the edges. A tooth that just had a root canal can turn brittle. In both cases, a dental crown is often what keeps it in your mouth.
Dental crowns are caps that cover the whole visible part of a tooth. They bring back the tooth’s shape, size, and strength, so you can chew normally again. A filling patches a hole in part of a tooth. A dental crown wraps the entire tooth when there isn’t enough healthy structure left to hold a filling.
We usually suggest dental crowns for teeth that are cracked, worn down, badly decayed, or weakened after a root canal. Dental crowns also go on top of dental implants.
The process is simple. We shape the tooth, take careful measurements, and place a temporary crown while your permanent one is made. When it’s ready, we fit it, check your bite, and adjust until it feels right.
Color matching matters here. Your dental crown should blend in with the teeth around it, so no one notices it but you. Find out more about Dental Crowns.
Root Canal Therapy Saves Infected Teeth
Few words make people tense up like ‘root canal.’ It’s mostly reputation, though. Root canal therapy is meant to stop pain, not cause it.
Inside every tooth is soft tissue called pulp. When deep decay or a crack lets bacteria reach that pulp, it can get infected and painful. Root canal therapy removes the infected pulp, cleans the inside of the tooth, and seals it. The pain eases, and you keep your natural tooth.
Signs you might need root canal therapy include a toothache that lingers, sensitivity to hot or cold that sticks around, pain when you chew, a tooth that’s turned darker, or a small bump on the gum nearby.
We use minimally uncomfortable injections and gentle sedation options for anxiety, so you can stay relaxed. For many patients, the visit feels a lot like getting a filling.
After root canal therapy, the tooth usually needs a crown to protect it. Saving a natural tooth is almost always worth the effort.

Tooth Extractions Remove Teeth That Can't Be Saved
Tooth extractions cover any tooth, other than a wisdom tooth, that has to come out. Wisdom teeth removal is its own service because those back molars sit differently and often need extra planning.
We always try to save a tooth first. Tooth extractions are the next step when a tooth is too broken, too decayed, or too loose to repair. They also help when crowding causes problems for the teeth around it.
There are two main approaches. Simple extractions are for a tooth that’s fully visible above the gum. We numb the area, then gently loosen and remove it. Surgical extractions are for a tooth that’s broken at the gumline or hard to reach, and may involve a small opening in the gum.
Either way, you’ll be numb, and we’ll talk about sedation if you’re anxious. We’ll also cover aftercare, like keeping the area clean and skipping straws for a few days.
It’s smart to think about what comes next before the tooth comes out. A dental implant or dental bridge can fill the gap so your other teeth don’t shift. Learn more about Tooth Extractions.
Wisdom Teeth Removal Handles Impacted or Painful Molars
Wisdom teeth are your third molars, the last teeth to come in, usually in your late teens or early twenties. Unlike the teeth covered by general tooth extractions, they often grow sideways or stay trapped under the gum. That’s why wisdom teeth removal gets its own planning.
Signs it may be time for wisdom teeth removal:
- Pain or pressure at the very back of your jaw
- Swollen or tender gums behind your last molars
- Crowding of nearby teeth
- Food getting stuck in a spot you can’t clean
Wisdom teeth removal is one of Dr. Manassra’s areas of focus, including impacted tooth removal when a tooth is trapped under the gum or bone. We use 3D dental imaging to see exactly where each tooth sits and how close it is to nearby nerves.
Sedation is a big part of the conversation here. Nitrous oxide sedation is the lightest option and wears off quickly. Oral sedation is a pill that relaxes you more deeply, and you’ll need a ride home. IV sedation goes deepest and is often used for trapped or complex wisdom teeth.
Picking the right level of sedation matters just as much as the removal itself.

Porcelain Veneers Reshape and Brighten Your Smile
Some people want more than a lighter shade. They want to fix a chip, close a gap, or even out teeth that don’t quite match. That’s where porcelain veneers come in.
Porcelain veneers are thin shells bonded to the front of your teeth. They cover chips, small gaps, stains that whitening can’t lift, and teeth that are uneven in size or shape. Porcelain reflects light much like natural enamel, so the results look like your own teeth.
Porcelain veneers are custom-designed to enhance your smile while preserving natural teeth. We only remove a thin layer of enamel, just enough for the veneer to sit flush.
The process starts with a conversation about what you want to change. We look at your face, your lips, and your bite, then plan porcelain veneers that fit you. It usually takes a couple of visits to go from planning to final placement.
Caring for porcelain veneers is pretty easy. Brush, floss, and keep up with your regular dental visits. Explore Porcelain Veneers in more detail.
All-on-4 Implants Rebuild a Full Arch of Teeth
All-on-4 implants and traditional dentures can both replace a full arch of teeth, but they work very differently. Traditional dentures rest on your gums and come out for cleaning. All-on-4 implants are fixed in place using four implants per arch.
With All-on-4 implants, four dental implants are placed in the jawbone at careful angles. A full arch of teeth then attaches to those implants. You don’t take it out at night, and you don’t need adhesives to keep it in place.
This is a good option if you’re missing most or all of your teeth in the upper or lower jaw, or if your remaining teeth can’t be saved. It’s also a common choice for people who are tired of dealing with loose dentures.
All-on-4 implants are one of Dr. Manassra’s areas of focus. Planning uses 3D dental imaging to map your jawbone and place each implant where it’ll hold best. IV sedation is available if you’d like to rest through the procedure.
It’s a big step, so we take time to answer every question first. You’ll know what to expect before, during, and after. Learn more about All-on-4 Implants.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if I need an emergency dental visit or can wait for a regular appointment?
Call us right away if you have a knocked-out tooth, severe pain, swelling, or a broken tooth. These signs mean something needs attention now, not at your next checkup. If you’re unsure, just call our San Jose office. We’d rather check things out and ease your mind than have you wait in pain at home.
Should I get dental implants or a crown for a damaged tooth?
It depends on whether the tooth is missing or just damaged. Dental implants replace a tooth that’s gone completely, including the root. Crowns cap and protect a tooth that’s still there but weakened or cracked. If you’re not sure which applies to you, we can check during a visit and point you the right way.
How often should I schedule a routine dental exam and cleaning?
Most people in San Jose should come in every six months, following the American Dental Association’s general guidance. If you have gum concerns, we may suggest more frequent visits. Staying on schedule catches small problems, like early cavities, before they turn into bigger repairs.
Is teeth whitening safe to do before other dental work?
We check for cavities and gum problems first, because whitening over an existing issue isn’t a good idea. Once your mouth is healthy, whitening is safe and straightforward. If you also need crowns or fillings, we’ll talk about timing so everything matches in color.
